The Salt Lake Section sponsors a National Chemistry Week Event for K-6 students at the Salt Lake City Public Library each October.

This theme of NCW in 2009 is "Chemistry - It's Elemental!" NCW will be celebrated October 18-24, 2009. The date for this year's event at the Salt Lake City Public Library (200 E 400 S) will be announced later this year. Professors Robyn Hyde and Paul Hooker from Westminster College of Salt Lake City have agreed to act as NCW Coordinators for the Salt Lake section. This event is held annually, on a Saturday in the month of November, in Ogden, Utah for middle school girls interested in science and math. Conference registration is for girls in grades 6-9 in any school from Farmington northward. ATK sponsors this event. The 2009 conference will be held Saturday November 7th at the Mount Ogden Junior High ScJunior High Schhool at 3260 Harrison Blvd in Ogden.

In 2009, ATK is adding a Salt Lake EYH Conference to the schedule. This conference will be held in the spring in the Salt Lake Valley. For 2009, the conference will be held on April 25th at the Northwest Middle School at 1730 W 1700 N. The Salt Lake area conferene will be for girls in grades 6-12, with special sessions on Higher Education and Women in Technology for the participants in grades 10-12.

The Salt Lake Section assist in this event by providing Chem Matters to give to all participants as well as providing supplies and volunteers for a chemistry based workshop.

EYH Information: National program and local conference

This event, sponsored by the ACS, consists of a written and laboratory exam for high school students, with winners competing at the national level for inclusion on the U.S. team. Local section members work with the area high schools.

The Utah Science Olympiad is held in the spring at Weber State University. Local junior high and high school students compete for a chance to represent Utah in the National Science Olympiad.
